This position reports to the Head of Camps. The Tennis Coach is a role model for camp participants, counselors and all team members. The ideal candidate exemplifies integrity and the other key characteristics we expect of all our employees: commitment, respect, responsibility and cooperation. In addition this person will have command of the fundamentals of tennis, be knowledgeable in teaching progressions and tennis strategy and tactics and demonstrate a passion for tennis, kids and having fun.

Responsibilities also include interacting with clients, staff members and the public. This includes problem-solving, information and guidance, and top-notch, professional communication. Tennis Coach shifts will be between 8:30 am-2:30 pm Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Ability to teach proper tennis technique in a safe, positive and appropriate manner to various levels and age groups.
  • Observes students to teach and correct mistakes, demonstrating skills as needed
  • Organize and ensure smooth operations of children’s tennis camp in a fun, exciting and nurturing environment
  • Supervise the tennis camp counselor by setting expectations, managing performance and giving timely feedback
  • Initiate and suggest actions to Head of Camps to improve the curriculum, daily flow, employee morale and work methods
  • Organize and assist with set-up and clean-up
  • Promote and demonstrate safe work practices, suggest and implement procedures to ensure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance
  • Handles other responsibilities and duties as assigned or needed

Qualifications

  • Solid communicator with demonstrated experience in working with a wide variety of audiences including, the public, staff, management, children and adults.
  • Some people-management experience.
  • Tennis Instruction Experience: 3+ years of proven ability in a tennis program or environment.
  • Understands all emergency procedures for Camp Menlo and Team Sheeper.
  • Experience working with students 5-12 years old, physical or learning disabilities, and special needs.
  • Experience working in a fluid, fast-paced, or high-pressure environment.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
