Menlo Swim and Sport is seeking a Youth Swim Coach for our Bridge Swim Program in Menlo Park, CA to work with Beginner through Intermediate swimmers ages 5 - 12 years old. The Bridge Swim Program is a non-competitive youth program designed to help swimmers transition from a swim lesson environment and “bridge” the gap to swimming as a sport or for exercise.

This position is a part-time, non-exempt position. The ideal candidate must be available to work weekdays, Monday – Thursday from 3:30-7:00 pm or 5:00-7:00 pm for practices. May also be asked to attend monthly staff meetings and email evaluations outside of these hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with other coaches and the Youth Program Manager for continual development of the program
  • Provide stroke analysis and communicate evaluations to parents
  • Ability to coach proper swimming technique from the pool deck in a safe, positive and encouraging manner to various levels and age groups
  • Observes swimmers during practice to teach and correct mistakes, demonstrating skills as needed
  • Run practice independently, follow practice plans and adapt skills/swim sets accordingly
  • Engage participants in a challenging, but fun and friendly environment
  • Responsible for set-up and clean-up of practice areas
  • Excellent communication skills with children and adults
  • Attend staff and training meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of swim instruction and/or swim coaching experience
  • Minimum 6 month commitment
  • Must be able to coach on the pool deck for at least 2 hours
  • Comfortable coaching in all elements, there’s swimming rain or shine!
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with students, parents, patrons, and staff
  • Must be punctual, responsible, and maintain a positive attitude
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, and enjoys working with children!
